The BBGSite.com gathered the list of the best browser games, and we are happy to announce that they have included Orion’s Belt. :)

The list is sorted alfabetically, so we are only present on the forth page. Even so, we’re very happy!

We were having a lot of requests to provide useful mechanisms for alliance members to interact/communicate with each other. Some minutes ago we deployed the Private Boards. These are message boards where members can discuss strategies and communicate. Here’s an example of an alliance’s message board:

And a preview of the latest alliance messages will also be shown on the player’s home page. Example:

We’re also considering using this engine to have private message boards per battle. And we’ll use this to implement private messages between players.

There were several players having problems with timeouts on the last tournament. We still have a tricky bug somewhere on the vacations, and we’re working on it. If you lost a battle because of a buggy timeout, let us know and we’ll compensate you.

Some asked for a reset on the tournament battles, but that we can’t do. What we can do is erase that bad influence on your stats, compensate you and apologize. :)

We are also considering a system where no battle is finished by timeout unless an administrator (and maybe gamemasters) says so. This will present a bigger maintenance cost, but at least active players won’t be harmed because of a bug or some temporary lack of time.

Today I was thinking on what should be the average number of turns per battle on Orion’s Belt. So I did some queries and I got the following data:

  • We have 1487 Finished Battles
  • We have an average of 26.9652 turns per battle (I’m only counting battles with >5 turns)
  • The longest battle took 115 turns to finish

The Maggot Hell tournament is about to begin in ~24h. Be sure to register! If you already rule the game board, you might win, and if you don’t, at least you’ll get experience. The winner gets 1000 Orions and the runner-up 250 Orions. These are great prizes!

This tournament has maggots and a lot of other very technical and powerful combat units. It will be very challenging to play with this fleet. The tournament’s fleet is:

  • 40 Maggot
  • 50 Raptor (use them to hunt the Maggot)
  • 25 Driller
  • 25 Vector ( the best to control the center of the board)
  • 25 Kahuna (protect the vector)
  • 20 Spider (the ultimate unit on the end game)
  • 10 Bozer (the best unit against air units)
  • 10 Black Widow (strike any unit group the the widow and the group will soon be gone!)

Do you have any additional tactics/questions you’d like to share/discuss?

And now the pirates also have their own refuge point: the pirate bays. In these places pirates search the near systems (2 hour travel time), for planets that don’t have ships in the defense fleet, and fleets that are travelling with cargo. These 2 features are very usefull so the pirates can pillage a planet easily and steal the cargo from other fleets.

This feature will give the right coordinate, the player who owns the planet or fleet, and his race. For the players that aren’t pirates they will only get:
